Volunteer

Volunteers give the greatest gift of all, the gift of self! Adult or teen volunteers are needed and appreciated in the following areas:

Teen Volunteers

Teens interested in giving back to the community, working in a fun environment, earning service hours, and boosting their job and college applications are encouraged to volunteer at the library this summer.

What can Teen volunteers do?

  • Help with programs for children
  • Prepare crafts or materials for programs
  • Decorate for Summer Reading or special events
  • Straighten & dust shelves
  • Clean book covers
  • Shelve Juvenile Paperbacks, DVDs & board books
  • Walk in the 4th of July and Christmas parades

How do I sign up to be a Teen Volunteer?

Teen volunteers must be in grade 8-12 and fill out a teen volunteer application (a parental signature is required). Then attend a volunteer training session before scheduling any volunteer hours. Check the library calendar online for training dates! For more information please email Robin Gibson at rgibson@fcdlibrary.org or Mary Roebuck at mroebuck@fcdlibrary.org.

You must be in grade 8-12 to apply to be a teen volunteer. Also, parental permission is required. Please click here for the application form. Thank you.

Third Floor Gallery Greeters

Volunteer greeters are needed in the Main Library’s Third Floor Gallery. Greeters allow the Third Floor Gallery exhibits to be open and accessible to all when Library staff are not available. Greeters are welcome to use this quiet time to read, study, knit, etc., while they volunteer. Volunteer greeters are needed every day the Main library is open. Adults interested in volunteering two to three hours a week are encouraged to call 740-653-2745, ext #121 or fill out an application.

Books & Such Volunteers

Books & Such, a bookstore located just inside the Main Library, is operated by the Friends of the Fairfield County District Library. Volunteers run the store and help keep the shelves stocked. All proceeds from Books & Such sales are used by the Friends of the Library to help fund activities and services at the Fairfield County District Library.
