Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainer

Location: Various library and offsite locations throughout Fairfield and Pickaway Counties
Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week), from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.
Pay: $18-22/hour. Pay based on education and experience.
Position: Contract

Guiding Ohio Online’s vision is for every Ohioan to be able to fully participate in online government, search and apply for jobs online, understand the risks and benefits to online finances, connect with family online, and protect personal information in the digital age. Guiding Ohio Online Technology Trainers perform training sessions, outreach, hands-on help, and other services to fulfill this vision. The Technology Trainer in this position will be shared between Fairfield County District Library and Pickaway County Library and will ideally work three days per week in Fairfield and two days per week in Pickaway.

Essential Duties:

  • Proactively provide customer service.
  • Assist patrons with basic troubleshooting of common software products, operating systems, browsers, and other technologies associated with library services. These technologies include, but are not limited to: handheld devices, e-readers, cell phones, laptops, and tablets.
  • Provide assistance in person at various library locations; over the phone; online via email or chat applications; or offsite.
  • Promote and educate patrons on the use of online resources such as the library catalog, digital collections, and research databases.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills with all ages, including the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately, with attention to detail.
  • Calm and focused when handling interruptions and distractions.
  • Patient and adaptable to working with users of various ages and socio-economic backgrounds, who have varying degrees of technology skills.
  • Ability to train patrons and library staff one-on-one, in small groups, or in a classroom setting.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
  • Competent in the use of Windows- and iOS-based programs, as well as the internet.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of higher education, experience, certification, and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work associated with this position.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a public library or school setting.

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours, based on need.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • High school diploma.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Ability to pass a background check screening.
