Materials Donation Guidelines

Materials you donate to the Fairfield County District Library may be added to the library's collection. If they are not, the materials will be given to the Friends of the Library to sell. The money the Friends receive is used to benefit the library.

If you would like a receipt, please ask for one. A receipt detailing the quantity of your donation will be mailed to you. Neither library staff nor Friends can place a value on your donation. You or the person preparing your tax return will be responsible for determining the Fair Market Value.

We can accept:
  • fiction and nonfiction books
  • hardbacks and paperbacks
  • any and all Lancaster and Fairfield County materials regardless of age or condition
  • gently used videos, audio tapes, or CDs
We cannot accept:
  • textbooks
  • Reader's Digest Condensed Books
  • encyclopedias over 10 years old
  • magazines

We cannot accept physically dirty, damp or mildewed materials. All donations must be in boxes or bags. Containers will not be returned. Donations must be delivered to one of our library locations.

If you have any questions, please call 653-2745, extension 159, before you bring your donations to the library.

Thank you for your donation!
