Northwest Branch Groundbreaking

Ground was broken October 17, 2005 for the new Northwest Branch of the Fairfield County District Library. The Fairfield County Library Foundation purchased land at 2855 Helena Dr, N.W., near Route 33, the bypass and Coonpath Road. This location will have county-wide access and be easily accessible to commuters from all the major roadways that converge at that point. The architectural firm of Lupton Rausch Architects, Inc. in Columbus has been hired to design the new branch.

The Northwest branch will share its facility with a new bookmobile. This will allow the branch and bookmobile to share both staff and resources so that all library materials for the bookmobile will be available to the public at the new branch. In addition, the new library branch will house our Technical Services Department where all new materials are ordered and acquired for our library system. We will have the convenience of the Route 33 bypass to make this our central distribution hub for delivering new and borrowed materials to the Main Library and our other branch locations.

We see this joint facility as a cost-effective method of serving our public now and in the future as our county continues to grow. The location near Carroll was identified as the highest priority for a library facility since it is one of the fastest growing areas in the county.

The Fairfield County Library Foundation is funding the construction of the Northwest Branch Library. The library will lease the new building from the Foundation. Even though no tax money is going toward the building of the new branch library, the library will be responsible to staff and equip the facility. The new branch will be a low-cost, functional building that will enhance library service in Fairfield County.
